For the first time in the history of the Guns-N-Hoses Charity Hockey Game to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the game was a shutout. The Guns won 6-0, avenging their only loss of the series – a 6-2 loss in 2009.
Even though there was a winner and a loser on the ice, everyone was a winner as the event raised $18,500! More than 4,000 fans showed up to support the teams and the cause last night at the Roanoke Civic Center.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s event such a big success! And while this year’s game is over, remember to check back here regularly for updates on next year’s game as well as how the money you helped raise is being put to use to help those suffering from muscular dystrophy.

The law enforcement and fire and rescue personnel that play this annual game have a great time with it and we know the fans do, too. However, we never lose sight of why we play this game. We play to raise money and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy. We play for people like Aidan Galleo.
Aidan Galleo is a 6-year-old boy with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. He was diagnosed when he was three. His mother, Melanie, is grateful for the MDA, which helped her, her son and their family during the last three years.
“The MDA was one of the first to call to offer their support and help us through our grief. They cover the costs for his visits to the MDA Clinic, where he sees a neurologist and has access to physical therapists and others involved with managing a patient with this disease,” Melanie explain. “Since we are in the beginning phases with this disease, we hope that any funds the MDA receives will help speed a cure so Aidan can be spared what now is certainly in his future.”
We hope you come to the game and have a great time. Please remember Aidan and others like him who are struggling with this terrible disease and help us help them.
See you at the game!

The six-year rivalry between the Guns and Hoses has produced an exciting, albeit lopsided history in favor of the Guns, i.e. the law enforcement team of hockey players.
The Guns won the first five meetings (2004-2008) in a shootout. But last season, the Hoses broke their five-game losing skid to claim their first victory, and they did so in convincing fashion, beating the Guns 6-2.
Can the Hoses make it two straight against the Guns? Or will the team of law enforcement professionals bounce back and pick up their sixth win in the seven game series? Find out on Saturday, January 23, 2009, at the Roanoke Civic Center! The opening face-off is at 6 p.m.!
